Two years into leading Camp Hendon, I stood up in front of a room full of Kentuckians and made an ask for kids with Type 1 diabetes.
You responded with $40,500. Campfires & Cocktails was never just about an evening at Sawyer-Hayes. It was about making sure every child in Kentucky living with T1D has a seat at the fire. Because financial barriers should never stand between a kid and the one place where they feel completely normal. What makes this number mean so much: because our life-saving medical supplies and expert staff are supported by generous in-kind donors and grants, every dollar raised goes directly to the camp experience itself. Every gift sends a child to camp. All of it. Nothing held back. I watched Ashley inspire the room. I listened to Robin and Josh tell the long story of this place. I heard Kevin, Jon, Phoebe Beth, and Mickey tell the truth about what T1D looks like at home — and what camp changes. I meant every word of that ask.
