New Diagnosis Campership Fund
In just one year, a child with Type 1 Diabetes will check their blood sugar approximately 2,920 times, give 2,555 insulin injections, and lose 209 hours of sleep. There are many reasons a child with T1D experiences anxiety and burnout; from constant self-care, to making a million decisions on a daily basis, to feeling the loneliness of being part of the 0.2% of youth living with T1D. Camp Hendon’s summer and year-round programming lightens this burden and connects each child with a welcoming community of support.
With your help, children who are newly diagnosed* with Type 1 Diabetes will be able to attend camp for free. In the first year of diagnosis, families struggle to adjust to such a dramatic life change, they are exhausted, and they all need a break. Camp Hendon promises the safest experience possible in a medically-supervised setting allowing families the time they need to regroup.
By donating to our New Diagnosis Campership Fund, you are providing peace of mind to families for the first time since their diagnosis. Our goal is to have $8,500 available in the fund each year.
*Children diagnosed with T1D since the first day of the prior year summer camp session are eligible for the New Diagnosis Campership
