Support Camp Hendon

Why is Camp Hendon Important?

Over 300,000 people in Kentucky alone are living with diabetes. It impacts many lives especially children. Many of these children often struggle with feeling like they are alone and that no one understands what they are dealing with. Camp Hendon, a volunteer-run camp founded in 1965, has given children with diabetes in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, a chance to have a fun, safe, and medically supervised camping experience while realizing they are not alone.

The number one benefit both children and their parents express is the ability to feel part of a group, where everyone has diabetes and the feelings of isolation are eliminated and understanding and role-modeling abound. At camp, children with diabetes are surrounded by people just like them – both children and adults who share their day-to-day challenges and triumphs managing diabetes.

How Can You Help?

All of our camp staff are volunteers, and we seek donations from companies for medical and treatment supplies. The true cost per camper with diabetes for a week of residential camp is over $1,200. Through donations and community support we are able to reduce that cost to around $500.

Not all families are in a position to send their child to camp so we offer needs-based camperships to children so that no child should be turned away because of financial need.

Our goal is to maintain $20,000 yearly reserves for camperships alone; this does not include medical supplies and general operating costs, (mailings, training, insurance, etc.).

We are relying on you, the parents, volunteers, advocates, providers, caregivers, and community at large to support keeping Camp Hendon serving the children of Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Any tax-deductible donation you can make to this cause will be greatly appreciated.

Since 1965, Camp Hendon has served over 3000 children with diabetes

in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
